How to Make Beach Treasure Pendants: Part 5 of Preschool Children Craft Ideas

Learn how to make beach treasure pendants. Turn your kids’ beach glasses and pebbles into wearable art. Part 5 of Preschool Children Craft Ideas from Kid Craft Project.

beach_treasure_pendant2 This is part of a series of posts on easy preschool craft ideas series.  Today is our final post.  If you’ve missed prior preschool craft projects, be sure to catch them here – #1 Pressed Flower Picture, #2 Quick Stamp Magnets#3 Pasta Jewelry and #4 Button Clips.  Today I’ll show you how to make Beach Treaure Pendants!

Have you ever wondered what you could do with all those beach glasses and pebbles that your children collected at the beach?  Instead of letting them hang out in their pockets until they’re forgotten, you can turn these beach treasures into wearable art.  This is a fun project that will teach your kids how to transform objects found in nature into something they’ll want to wear all the time.  Hopefully these pendants will also remind them of all fun in the sun they had!

Beach Treasure Pendant supplies:

  1. A collection of beach glasses or pebbles
  2. Beading wire (choose the thin & pliable type)
  3. Pieces of ribbon or hemp chords (optional for attaching the pendants)

Beach Treasure Pendant instructions:

  1. Cut the beading wire into roughly 1 foot long.  Find the midpoint of the wire and gently bend it to create a loop (about the size of a thumb)
  2. Take one beach glass or pebble and place it right below the wire loop.  Spread the ends of the wire on both sides of the beach treasure.
  3. With one hand holding the beach treasure and the wire loop in place, wrap the wire ends randomly across the beach treasure.
  4. Be sure that you wrap the wire ends all over the beach treasure to secure it.
  5. When the ends are down to about 1 inch length, draw the ends toward the loop at the top and wind it around the bottom of the loop.
  6. The wire loop should have approximately half an inch of opening at the top so you can string the ribbon or hemp chord through.
  7. String a piece of ribbon or chord to make a necklace (optional).

As usual, here are some beautiful photos of beach treasure pendants around the web for your inspiration:

Pressed Flower Picture: Part 1 of Preschool Children Craft Ideas

Learn how to make a beautiful pressed flower picture. This post is part 1 of the Preschool Children Craft Ideas from Kid-Craft-Project.

framed-red-tulip It’s never too early to get your young ones started on craft projects.  Craft projects engage all their visual and motor skills and encourage them to practice using their creativity in a fun & safe environment.  There are a few special tips for choosing preschool craft ideas.  The best craft ideas for kids this age should be simple, easy to clean up afterwards and use readily available objects that can be found in the house.  It helps to have projects that can be finished in 10 to 20 minutes since kids have shorter attention span.  If you must work on a longer project with your kid, choose projects that can be broken into separate components.

This is the first in a series of posts featuring easy preschool children craft ideas.  Today, I’m going to show you how to make a pressed flower picture.

Pressed Flower Picture Supplies:

  1. Fresh flowers
  2. Paper towels
  3. A few heavy books
  4. Glue
  5. Some paper for the background – you can use construction paper, scrapbook paper, newspaper or other recycled paper for variation
  6. Picture frame (optional)

Pressed Flower Picture Instructions:

  1. Gather flowers with your kids. Take advantage of late summer blooms now.
  2. You’ll press flower between hardcover books. Line the pages with paper towels. Put flower petals in between the paper towels. Be careful not to overlap the flowers.  Close the book and put something heavy on top of the book.
  3. After 2-3 weeks, the flowers are ready to be put into a picture.
  4. On a piece of construction paper (trimmed to the same size as your picture frame if you want to frame it), apply a dab of glue on a small area.  Let your kid decide how to arrange the flower petals.  Gently press the flower petals on top of the glue area.
  5. Repeat the above step – continue to put a little bit of glue and press the flower on the piece of paper.
  6. Once the picture is finished, seal the picture with sealant before framing.  This will ensure that the flowers get preserved.

That’s it!  Here are some photos of pressed flower picture for your inspiration!
